My name is Melisa. I've been married to Brad for 10 years and we have 2 boys and a girl.
I first fell in love with American Sign Language while watching Linda on Sesame Street. I was mesmerized watching her and would make up my own signs just so that I could use my hands. When I got to college, I took every American Sign Language course they offered. I loved every minute of it.
When my son was a year old, we found that he had difficulty communicating with us, due to an unknown hearing blockage. It was then that I was introduced to Signing Time. We were instantly in love with the DVDs. And though my children are older now, they still enjoy signing and watching Signing Time.
For years now, I have wanted to find a way to be more involved with ASL. When Signing Time presented the opportunity, I was elated. As a Master Signing Time Instructor, I am able to teach both Signing Time curriculum and Baby Signing Time curriculum. I have had a background check performed and training through the Signing Time Academy. I am very excited to share the joys of ASL with others.
I have adopted as my own goal, the wish of Rachel Coleman:
"My hope is that everyone will know a little sign, just as most people know a little Spanish - so when your child sees my child at the park, there would be no awkwardness, no communication barrier, just three signs... Hi....friend... play... that is all it would take to change her world." Rachel Coleman, co-creator of Signing Time
I would love to help change some worlds.
